Search Engine Optimization: 6 Quick Wins for the Holiday Season

As Christmas is just around the corner, holiday sales are about to peak. It is high time for you to bring your SEO up to scratch. Successful search engine optimization (SEO) requires several months until you can see results. However, with the following quick wins you can still boost your holiday sales now.

1. Google My Business

In Google My Business you define your presence in Google Search, Google Maps and Google Plus. Make sure that all information about your company is up to date. Update your description, pictures and opening hours. Furthermore, you should use the possibility to add special opening hours for the pre-Christmas period, like late-night and Sunday shopping.

2. Landing Page Optimizations

Make sure that your most important landing pages are well optimized for the relevant keywords. You can use the AdWords Keyword Planner to find the best keyword for each landing page. A good keyword matches your offer, has a high search volume and ideally low competition. The most important keyword should be used in the following areas on the corresponding landing page:

  • URL
  • Title Tag (max. 70 characters)
  • Meta Description (120-160 characters)
  • Heading Tags (H1 tag, maybe H2 tags)
  • Body Text

Especially on e-commerce websites, the relevant landing pages often lack a body text. You should add a text of at least 200 words to your relevant pages.

3. Re-Use of Content

It takes time to create new content. Luckily, you do not always need to start from scratch. Take existing content that has performed well in the past, update it if needed and share it again on social media. The most important social networks for SEO are Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus. If your target group is B2B, we also recommend distributing your content via LinkedIn and Xing (German speaking countries). You can use free SEO tools like Google Analytics and Google Search Console to identify your most successful content.

4. Write New Blog Posts

Search engines and users like new and relevant content. So if you can make the time, you should write new blog posts about your most important topics. New blog posts also allow you to position yourself once again as an expert and convince potential clients for your business. The following content formats are especially promising: List post (listicles), why posts and videos.

5. Structured Data

With Structured Data you can mark up your website with additional information, which can then appear in search results. This has several advantages: First of all, search results with structured data use more space and as a result get more attention. In addition, the additional information from structured data can convince possible clients to click on your result.

If you have a web shop, you should definitely add structured data for products:

6. Internal Linking

Internal links are a crucial part of search engine optimization. They help search engines and users to find additional relevant information on your website. Thus, internal links have a positive impact on user signals like bounce rate and time on site. These metrics are relevant SEO ranking factors. Make sure that all your relevant landing pages have sufficient internal links and that the internal links are working. You should also look for and add additional linking opportunities.
